BECCA Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation Review

A nourishing formula with buildable coverage for a flawless face

photos: we heart this

One of the great parts of being a wht tester is the opportunity to try new brands. I tend to stay in my own little bubble of favorites, and forget just how many other great lines are out there. BECCA Cosmetics has recently become one of my new favorites; wht introduced me to the line, and I’m super happy they did.

I’ve tried BECCA’s nail polish, their lipgloss (which is one of the best I’ve used), and now, their Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation ($40), which is yet another impressive product. They have a perfect track record with me right now, and are quickly becoming a go-to brand.

I typically use cream foundations, because I find they provide better coverage, but BECCA’s powder foundation claims “medium to full coverage,” so I was anxious to try it. First impressions were I was really impressed with the compact itself. A sturdy size, a sleek/modern look, with the silver button on top, and it comes in a nice little zip-up bag. It’s definitely a compact worthy of the $40.00 price tag.

The powder is ultra soft and silky, and WOW, what a powerhouse formula. Packed with antioxidant vitamins for anti-aging benefits, red algae that improves circulation, and aloe vera and honeysuckle flower to soothe and moisturize, this powder isn’t kidding around. With all of its benefits, it’s also free of parabens, oil, fragrance, chemical dyes, talc and fillers, which means it’s great for sensitive and acne prone skin. (This was a major plus for me!)

Perfect Skin Mineral Powder in Buttercup

This Sephora Exclusive is available in a nice range of 15 shades, and Sephora stores have a “Shade Match Color Wheel Mirror” for you to find your perfect match. I tested Buttercup, a medium beige with warm pink undertones. Each compact has a thin sponge, for application, that allows you to create buildable coverage.

I started out using it alone, in place of my normal foundation, and it provided pretty solid coverage. It wasn’t quite as much as my cream foundations, but more than I expected from a powder foundation. Next, I found it worked great on top of my existing foundation routine, to maintain coverage throughout the day, so I ended up using it more like a powder. But, it worked so well as a powder, I’m thinking of ordering more!

BECCA’s Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation has a very polished finish and gave my skin a super smooth, flawless appearance… I managed to look fresh in the dead of winter! I think this would be a perfect option for any of you looking for a lightweight foundation with layering coverage.

Pros: • Lightweight, silky formula • Packed with minerals and other anti-aging benefits • Beautiful compact • Water resistant

Cons: • A tad bit pricey • No SPF

Hello beautiful people,

This review is about a brand I discovered only 2 years ago and it blew my mind. I’m talking about Becca Cosmetics. They are on the pricier side of things, but their quality is impeccable! I am yet to try a product of theirs that wasn’t perfect. Today’s review is about the Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation compact because one can never have enough foundations! 😉

Product Description:

Becca describes this foundation as “a pure mineral foundation that provides buildable coverage for a perfect, lightweight finish with antioxidant protection.Pure mineral pigments are pressed into this silky powder to deliver buildable coverage that feels light, looks fresh all day, and leaves skin with a soft, luminous finish. This water-resistant formula, enriched with antioxidant vitamins A, B, C, and E for antiaging benefits, lasts all day.”

Size and Pricing:

You get 0.33 ounces or 9.35 grams for $40 + tax which is a hefty price tag for a powder foundation. Especially when you usually get more product with most other brands. I wonder why Becca didn’t just round it off to 0.35 ounces like most other brands.

My Take on Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation:

I have such a problem skin that I am always on the lookout for a better foundation. While most of my skin is desert dry, my t-zone is like a sea of oil! It’s quite the contrast and most products just don’t work for me. Things that are great on the dry part and horrible for the oily and anything that keeps me less oily gives me awful dry patches.

I definitely prefer using powder foundations over liquid ones because they are easier to use, so I decided to try this one. One of the best things about Becca is that they are one of the few brands that actually cater to a wide variety of skin tones, especially for the ones on the darker side of the spectrum. The colour I got turned out a little too dark for me but I won’t base the review on that factor because that was my fault.

Overall, it is a nice mineral foundation. The texture is very finely milled and smooth. It doesn’t give full coverage but it can be built up in thin layers for a good medium coverage. If most mineral foundations break you out, you should skip this one because it has similar ingredients. Also, I find this foundation a more matte finish than a satin finish, so if you have dry skin and you over apply, it will accentuate your dry patches. But used sparingly, it works fine on dry skin.

It lasted about 5 hours on me and will require touch ups if you plan on wearing it to work.  I was slightly disappointed with the wear time because at this price point, I was expecting it to be flawless, but oh well. My biggest problem with this foundation is that because it is so finely milled, it is almost powdery – smooth but still powdery. I used it with the lightest touch and the powder went everywhere, which is such a waste. Also, I think that makes is extremely travel unfriendly.

Things I Love about Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation:

  • Awesome colour range, so there is something for everyone.
  • Even though it is a powder foundation, if used correctly – it does not accentuate dry patches.
  • The packaging is minimalist and very different.
  • The powder blends nicely on the skin.
  • Decent coverage for a powder foundation.
  • The wear time could be better but it’s average and not bad.

Things I Do Not Like Much Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation:

  • Definitely not a cheap foundation.
  • So finely milled that the product kicks up so much powder which results in so much wastage.

IMBB Rating:

I am slightly torn on how to rate this product. I think I’ll give it a 3.5/5 because while it was a decent product, I was expecting something stellar at that price point.

Becca Mineral Powder Foundation Review – Musings of a Muse

I’m so not a mineral makeup lover or user. I don’t care who tries to convince me but in my opinion minerals are for oily skin types or people with perfectly smooth skin. I also stay away from minerals due to Bismuth, a fairly common ingredient in mineral foundation that makes me itchy as hell. Feels like hundreds of tiny ants are crawling under my skin! Not fun!

Mind you, none of this sways me from trying to find the perfect mineral foundation. I’ll try just about anything mineral because deep down inside I have a hidden hope that someday, some where, my mineral wishes will come true.

Becca Mineral Powder Foundation made its way onto my beauty radar recently.

Jump!

Becca Mineral Powder Foundation is a sheer, weightless foundation that has a water-resistant formula infused with natural anti-oxidant vitamins A, B, C and E for anti-aging benefits.

Becca has a solid formula on its hands with this new mineral powder but a few quirks prevent it from being perfect. First the good….

The formula is lightweight and silky smooth with a super blendable formula. It applies like a dream leaving behind a more flawless look and feel. The formula isn’t pigmented but it manages to even out your complexion and works at creating a good working canvas for makeup without appearing overly done, cakey, or flaky. Even dry skin types will like the benefits of a formula that has a hydrating finish that doesn’t flake up, fade, oxidize, or change color. Aloe Vera and Honeysuckle Flower make the formula feel not only weightless but moisturizing as well and makeup-less looking.

Becca claims its water resistant and wears strong all day and that’s true. It wears around 7 hours and sticks around even in humidity. It just looks fresh even well into its 5th hour of wear time. I find it’s not something I’m compelled to touch up on as the day progresses.

The packaging has an interesting Urban, chic-feel with hubcap design that sports a silver plate on the cover sporting the Becca logo.

As I mentioned above, certain factors prevent it from being perfect.

It does indeed contain bismuth which makes my skin go wild. When I wear this I feel itchy and uncomfortable. I wore it for 8 hours straight one day and it was near my undoing as I was tempted to just sit and scratch at my face. If you’re used to Bare Minerals Mineral Foundation, you probably won’t experience this problem however if you’ve used BE in the past and felt itchy, you’ll pretty much experience the same with Becca’s foundation.

Unlike BE, Becca created a more subtle product so it wears very light and isn’t as pigmented. If you have problem skin which needs super coverage (redness, acne scarring, etc…) this probably won’t be a great option. It evens out skin tone but doesn’t exactly conceal woes.

It comes in five shade selections which lean more towards the fairer, paler realms of makeup users. Darker chicklets may find that none of these shades are suitable for their skin.

  • Anyone who already owns and loves BE (BE users will like how lightweight this is and how long it wears).
  • Anyone with super oily skin sans acne (oily skin will love how it mattifies and keeps shine at bay for hours).
  • Anyone who doesn’t mind bismuth in their minerals!
  • Anyone who wants a mineral foundation to even out their skin and make it look flawless.

  • Anyone who becomes super itchy when bismuth is introduced into their mineral wearin’!
  • Olive or darker skin tones (color selection is limited).
  • Anyone who needs full coverage makeup.

Although it has some seriously great features it sadly failed to become “the one” for me in my mineral foundation quest. It’s a great product for anyone who doesn’t have a bad reaction to bismuth and has near perfect skin however anyone with less than smooth skin probably should look elsewhere for a mineral foundation.

Great features, love the long wear, but sadly not a love for me.

Anyone try it?
